Spring Math Challenge 2017 Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to register my classroom?

Classrooms will need to be registered by March 13th, 2017 in order to compete. To register, visit our sign-up page HERE.

You will need to enter the email address that you use to sign in to your DreamBox account. If you are an administrator signing up a teacher, be sure to use the teacher's email address. Enter the name of your classroom the same way it appears in your Insight Dashboard. The team name can be any name of your choosing and will appear in the leaderboard.


Can I register multiple classrooms?

Yes. After registering your first classroom, click the orange link to register another class.


Is my classroom name made public?

No. Your classroom name is only used by DreamBox Learning and will not be visible to others competing in the Spring Math Challenge. Only your team name will be visible on the leaderboard.

Can a classroom with more than 40 students participate?

Since the Math Challenge is designed to be a classroom competition, we are limiting participation to classrooms that fall within the range of a typical classroom. If your classroom or school is not eligible to participate, we encourage you to develop a math challenge for your students to motivate their math learning.

What are the dates of the challenge?

The challenge runs from March 13th, 2017 to March 31st, 2017. Results will be counted from the beginning of the contest, and Regional and National winners will be announced on April 14th!

How do we compete in the contest?

It’s easy - all you need to do is have your students play as many lessons as they can! At the end of the contest, awards will go to the classrooms with the highest total lessons completed throughout the entire duration of the contest in each category. A Grand Prize will be awarded to the classroom with the highest number of total lessons completed in the Small and Large classifications. In the event of a tie, we will extend the time period (of only the tied classrooms) to include classroom usage by one week increments prior to the contest until there is no longer a tie.

What new feature will be available to participating classrooms? 

Students in participating classrooms will get to see their Weekly Lesson Count! This new feature automatically tracks how many lessons a student completes in DreamBox each week. It resets to zero at the end of each week (Sunday). This feature will facilitate teacher/student weekly goal-setting and make it easy for students to see if they are on target toward reaching their weekly lesson completion goals.

How can I track how many lessons my students have completed?

To see how many lessons your students have completed, log in to your Teacher Dashboard and go to the Classroom Overview tab. Set your custom reporting date range from March 13th to the current date and you will see how many lessons each student has completed in the Lessons column. You can sum the total manually, or you can export this report into Excel. In Excel, you will want to sum the Lessons Completed column (ex: use this formula =sum(D2:D:30) )

Will a leaderboard be posted?

A link to a leaderboard will be emailed each week to participants. The leaderboard will be in an Excel/PDF format. Teachers are asked to create a team name during registration. We will post the team name on the leaderboard along with the category and the state.

Are Paid Pilot users eligible to win?

No, only customers with a 12-month (plus) license are eligible to win prizes.

Are Free Trial users eligible to win?

Unfortunately, Free Trial users are not eligible to win any prizes.
