AssignFocus™ is a great way to help you guide student learning! This tool enables teachers to give students up to two assignments at a time from across all DreamBox standards.

Educators can choose between Short-Term Assignments, which include one to two lessons and are active up to fourteen days, or Long-Term Assignments, which continuously present students with lessons in the specified standard or cluster over several weeks or until they demonstrate proficiency in the standard(s).

How to Review and Cancel Assignments

CREATE AN ASSIGNMENT FOR MULTIPLE STUDENTS IN A CLASSROOM

While viewing a classroom in the Insight Dashboard, you can create an assignment for several students at the same time.

USING THE ASSIGNFOCUS TAB

1) With the desired classroom selected, click the AssignFocus tab from the Reports Pane.

2) Click Add Assignment to create a new assignment.

3) Select whether you wish to create a Short-Term Assignment or a Long-Term Assignment.

4) Select the Assignment Duration. Short-Term Assignments can be set for one to two weeks and Long-Term Assignments can be set for two to ten weeks. Both types of assignments can end before the selected duration if you choose to cancel the assignment, if the student completes the lessons for a Short-Term Assignment, or if the student demonstrates proficiency in the standard for a Long-Term Assignment.

5) Select the Grade level and Domain from the drop-down menus and then select the Standard the assignment will address. A Long-Term Assignment includes the option All standards in domain. This will provide students with lessons from across the domain until they are proficient in all associated standards, the assignment expires, or the assignment is stopped.

6) Review the description of the standard and click Just Started LessonIn-Progress Lesson, or Review Lesson if you would like to preview samples of the different lessons that the standard includes.

Note: Students receive lessons of varying complexity depending on their current experience with the standard. For example, a student who has never worked in the standard will receive a Just Started Lesson while a student who is already proficient in the standard will receive a Review Lesson.

7) Check the checkboxes of all students you would like to receive the assignment.

  • Students are separated into columns by their current progress in the standard.
  • A calendar icon indicates the student already has an active Short-Term Assignment  or Long-Term Assignment . Hover over the calendar icon to view the assigned standard, the educator that made the assignment, and the due date of the assignment.
  • A student's name may be faded and unable to be selected if:
      • The student already has two assignments.
      • The student already has an open assignment for this standard.
      • The student is working in the K-2 Learning Environment and the standard is limited to the 3-5 Learning Environment. This can include standards that appear to be aligned to the earlier grade levels, depending on the Academic Standard your Insight Dashboard is displaying. (For steps to permanently adjust a student's Learning Environment, click HERE.)
      • You are assigning a Long-Term Assignment in a standard the student is already proficient in.

8) Click Add Assignment  in the top-right corner of the dashboard to save the new assignment.
