Troubleshooting Tips: iPad

Below are effective troubleshooting steps to try if DreamBox does not operate as normal. If these tips don't resolve the issue, please don't hesitate to email us at or call us at  1 (877) 451-7845 ext. 3.
Before attempting any troubleshooting, be sure to check your internet connection. You must be connected to the internet in order to access DreamBox. If students are kicked out of their accounts in the middle of a lesson or if you see the error message, "Unable to access DreamBox at this time," there is a strong chance that something is interfering with your internet connection. DreamBox may not be recognized as a "safe" site by your firewall settings, or your connection may not be strong enough to handle the number of students playing at the same time. We may be able to help you troubleshoot these issues, but you will need to contact your school, district, or board IT department for internet connection issues. If you are a parent or home subscriber, you may need to contact your Internet Service Provider.


1) Make sure you have both iPad apps installed
Our iPad experience contains unique, interactive content that covers 8+ years of math lessons. Over the past year, we have expanded the content in our app by over 200 lessons! As a result, we've had to split up our app into DreamBox Math Green and DreamBox Math Blue. Learn more about the app split.

2) Make sure your tablet is an iPad
DreamBox is not currently supported on any tablet other than an iPad, so it is not available on Kindle Fire or Android tablets. You can access your Insight Dashboard by signing in the same way you do on a computer, but students cannot play on these tablets. To check to see if your tablet is an iPad, turn it over and look for the Apple logo and the label "iPad" on the back. The apps are not available on an iPod, iPhone, or other smartphones.

3) Make sure your iPad is an iPad 2 or higher, and your operating system is updated
Students cannot play DreamBox on an iPad 1. Your iPad must be an iPad 2 or higher, including the iPad mini, running the operating system iOS 6 or higher. To check your operating system, click the Home button, and then click the Settings icon . From the Settings page, tap General, and then select Software Update. The Software Update page lists your current operating system and any required system updates. Please update your system if required.

4) Make sure you are using the correct login method for your school
If your school uses Single Sign-On access, you will log in through your Single Sign-On portal in Safari.
If your school does not use Single Sign-On access, you will log in directly through the app.

5) Make sure DreamBox Math is the only open app
When other apps are open they use a considerable amount of memory and power that can affect students' experience when playing DreamBox. To close all other apps, click the Home buttontwice . All open apps are magnified. To close an app, touch and slide it to the top of the screen. Do this with each open app except for DreamBox Math Green and Blue. Tap either DreamBox Math app to begin playing again.

6) Delete and download the DreamBox Math app again
The app may have a mandatory update or something may have happened when you downloaded the app the first time. The quickest way to solve either issue is to delete the app and download a clean copy. Make sure all other apps are closed. Tap and hold one of the DreamBox Math apps   until it begins to wiggle, and a small X appears in the top left corner of the app. Tap the to delete the app. Repeat this with the other app. Tap the App Store icon  to open the App Store on your iPad, and type "DreamBox Math" in the search bar. When the app appears, tap FREE or the Cloud icon to redownload the app. The app appears on your Home screen when it is ready to use. Tap the app to open and play DreamBox.

7) Reboot your iPad
Just like a computer, if an iPad has been used continuously, it can affect the device's performance. You may want to try rebooting your iPad. To reboot your iPad, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the message slide to power off appears on your screen. Slide the power icon to shut down your iPad. Wait at least ten seconds, then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button or Home buttonto restart your iPad.
